Smriti Mandhana is an Indian women's cricketer who plays for the Indian women's cricket team.Smriti is primarily a right-handed batsman who scored two centuries in the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup. She was born on 18 July 1996 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.In 2021, Smriti Mandhana won the ICC's Best Cricketer title for the second time. ICC has named her the Best Women's Cricketer of 2021 in all three formats.
Early and Personal Life
Smriti Mandhana was born on 17 July 1996 in Mumbai to Smith and Shrinivas Mandhana. When she was 2 years old, her family moved to Sangli, Maharashtra where she completed her schooling. She was inspired to become a cricketer by her brother when he played for Maharashtra Under-16. At the age of 9, she was selected in the Maharashtra Under-15 team. At the age of 11, she was selected for the Maharashtra Under-19 team.
Career
Mandhana's first success came in October 2013 when she became the first Indian woman to score a double century in an ODI. Playing for Maharashtra against Gujarat, she scored an unbeaten 224 off 150 balls in the West Zone Under-19 tournament at the Alambic Cricket Ground in Vadodara. In the 2016 Women's Challenger Trophy, Mandhana hit three half-centuries in as many games for India Red, and an unbeaten 62 off 82 balls in the final against India Blue to help her team win the trophy.
She became the youngest Indian captain to become a T20I captain, be it a male or female. She captained Team India in T20Is at the age of 22 years and 229 days
Smriti Mandhana became the fastest Indian woman batsman to score a fifty in T20Is. He made this record against New Zealand in 2019.
International Career
Mandhana played her first Test match against England at Wormsley Park. She helped her team win the match by scoring 22 and 51 runs in their first and second innings respectively. In the second ODI of India's tour of Australia in 2016 at Bellerive Oval, Hobart, Mandhana scored her first international century (102 runs from 109 balls). Smriti was the only Indian woman player to be included in the ICC Women's Team of the Year 2016.
She is only the second Indian woman player to score a century in a T20I Match.
